Sunday's Traditional Sailing Ship Day begins partly on Saturday, when traditional sailing ships sail the Tervasaari Barrel-named traditional sailing race. The starting gun is fired at sea off Helsinki's coast and the finish line is located south of the Kaivopuisto-Katajanokka line. The starting time and route are determined based on wind conditions, with arrival at the finish aimed for between 3-4 pm. After the race, the vessels group together for the Parade of Sails, which brings the sailing ships sailing in a parade procession to the South Harbor. The parade is followed by the ships assembling at the South Harbor, attached to the Cholera Basin and its surroundings for Sunday's traditional Sailing Ship Day. The best viewing spots for following the race finish and the Parade of Sails are the shores of Kaivopuisto and Katajanokka.
