Small Helsinki Museum Series
My Museum Buddy and I
Updated 22.3.2018Helsinki has dozens of interesting museums, and pleasantly many venues have taken care to welcome even the smallest child visitors, so it’s worth going on a museum adventure even with a smaller child or baby.
The Small Helsinki Museum Testing Team also includes a four-year-old museum veteran and a one-year-old just getting acquainted with the museum world. With the four-year-old, a favorite list of regular museums has formed, places where this little-big museum buddy continues to get excited and interested again and again, while the smaller one loyally follows along and marvels.
Museum visits with children have often been successes and children have generally been welcome in exhibitions. Of course, we haven’t visited absolutely every museum or exhibition, and we’ve selected venues that also suit children. In this series, we introduce museums in Helsinki that we’ve found to be good and functional from the perspective of the little ones.
For those traveling with babies, it’s worth knowing that in nearly all museums where we’ve visited with strollers, we’ve been able to bring the strollers/prams into the exhibitions, and the very smallest visitors have been treated remarkably well. What bothers me most is that I didn’t realize during my first year with a baby that I should have visited more museums with the baby, because in hindsight it seems like an easy and relaxing way to get out in public.
