Lucia descends the Cathedral steps around 18 and this year the procession starts from a new location: Lucia and her entourage walk through St. Thomas's Market at Senate Square and the Lucia float departs from the Aleksanterinkatu side of the square. The route of the Lucia Day procession then follows the traditional route: Aleksanterinkatu – Mannerheimintie – Pohjoisesplanadi – Unioninkatu – back to Senate Square.
