Tove Jansson Park, located in Katajanokka, also features a small playground maintained by the city. Nestled among trees and shrubs, the park is filled with the sounds of passing trams, yet the fenced park still feels safe even with the youngest of children.
The park is divided into two sections: The smaller fenced yard has a sandbox and a few swings. The larger yard features a climbing frame with a slide, swings, a shelter, a sandbox, a couple of rockers, and a bench.
The park has an unlocked toy box containing sand toys.
During testing in July, liquid dripping from the park's linden trees made the play equipment sticky, and the slide was, in the child's words, "gluey". This same problem also occurred during testing in a few other parks surrounded by linden trees.
The playground is small and compact, close to the city center and market square. The park is suitable for younger children. Despite its name, Tove Jansson Playground, promising much, the moomins here are only found in murals on the shelter walls.
Playground Equipment:
- Swings (baby swing and regular swing)
- Climbing frame with a slide
- Two sandboxes (with sand toys)
- A couple of rockers
Other Features:
- Sand toys available for everyone to use
- Playground is completely fenced
- The slide-climbing frame combination was to the child's liking, although "gluey" at test time
- Nice views
