Night of the Arts events for children around Helsinki

The Night of the Arts takes over Helsinki for the 29th time on Thursday, August 24, 2017. As in recent years, there is also programming outside the city centre. Little Helsinki lists child-friendly activity tips for under-school-age children for this classic event. The first part introduces children’s events held outside the city centre and tips on where to go with little ones. The Night of the Arts program is still being updated.

Haaga, Haaga Square, Haaga Square 2 Night of the Arts at Haaga Square 4-8 pm

At Haaga Square, among other things, face painting for children 6-7 pm, drawing with street chalk and soap bubbles. Live acoustic music is also promised. South Haaga Library sells withdrawn books 4-7 pm, plus sales tables from local craftspeople. Weather permitting. More information about the event can be found here.

Itäkeskus, Stoa, Turunlinnantie 1 Stoa's Night of the Arts 5-8 pm

Music, workshops, giant soap bubbles and a disco! Stoa cultural centre is filled with programming for the whole family. In the theatre hall, the returning-to-stage band Paukku Maisse performs at 5:15 pm and Nomada Ensemble at 6:30 pm. In Stoa's square, the Ruffle Army giant soap bubble group will be seen (weather permitting) and the evening-closing Kikattava Kakkiainen disco at 7:15 pm (in case of rain, the disco moves to the music hall). Additionally, various workshops throughout Stoa, including Itäkeskus Library and the Workers' Institute.

East Pasila, Lehdokki Playground, Pakkamestarinkatu 4 East Pasila goes Night of the Arts 1-4 pm

During three intensive hours, in the playground yard there is an opportunity to listen to music performed by a band or grab the microphone yourself. Additionally, in the playground yard there is face painting for all ages and the opportunity to participate in creating a community art work guided by an artist. Café buffet. Jakomäki, Jakomäki Library, Jakomäenpolku 3 Dog dancing and drawing 5-7 pm

At Jakomäki Library's Night of the Arts, there will be a dog dancing performance of a mixed-breed dog named Sysi in the library yard. You can also pet the dog and chat about dog news. After the dance performance, croquis drawing, or quick sketches for all ages. You can use Sysi as a model or human volunteers. Anyone can draw or be a model. Kannelmäki, Kanneltalo, Klaneettitie 5 Kanneltalo's Night of the Arts

Kanneltalo's Night of the Arts consists of workshops and performances. More information about the event can be found here.

Kuusisaari, Villa Gyllenbergs, Kuusisaarenpolku 11 The Lost Kantele 5-9 pm

Väinämöinen and the lost kantele. A treasure hunt with Väinämöinen and Aino. Music and song have fallen silent in the lands of Karelia: help Väinämöinen and Aino find the lost kantele so we can celebrate 100-year-old Finland! The kantele-singing duo Unaja performs at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. Café open. The program is suitable for all ages and admission to the event is free. More information about the event can be found here.

Käpylä, Save the Children, Koskelantie 38 Fun in Tiukula 5-7:30 pm

Save the Children invites children and families to the Night of the Arts! The program includes, among other things, circus school, a magician, balloons, a wheel of fortune, raffle, social media quiz and face painting. More information about the program can be found here.

Laajasalo, Ylistalo, Muurahaisenpolku 4 Night of the Arts in Kartanopuisto 6-10 pm

At Ylistalo, you will see Magician Heikki Varvikon's children's show at 6 pm. Additionally, singing and music performances, poetry recitations, an art exhibition and face painting for children. Café Brita serves all evening.

Lauttasaari, Lahnalahti Playground, Lauttasaarentie 40-42 Laru's Children's Night of the Arts 5-8 pm

Diverse programming for the whole family, featuring at least music, dance and art. More information about the event can be found here.

Malmi, Malmitalo, Ala-Malmi Square 1 House of One Hundred Children 5-8 pm

Malmitalo's Night of the Arts theme this year is in honour of poet Kirsi Kunnaksen. Following in Kunnakas's footsteps, swarming children are counted at Malmitalo, plus fun workshops and music are on offer. In the Magic Forest workshop, crafts are made and the Loiskis-orkisteri with soloist Eeva-Leena Pokela take the stage at 6 pm. For adults, rhyming portrait sketches are offered, for example.

Oulunkylä, Oulunkylä Old Wooden School, Teinintie 8 Wooden School's Night of the Arts 5-8 pm

The wooden school is a small cultural venue for culture enthusiasts and professionals. The idyllic old primary school welcomes both families with children and adults during the Night of the Arts to enjoy a charming evening. More information about the evening's program can be found here.

North Haaga, Shopping Centre/Workers' Institute, Näyttelijäntie 14 Art Café 3:30 pm-8:30 pm

Delicacies, art and music for children and adults, for example, a music moment at 4:30-5:15 pm to the tune of the Moomins, art yoga and Trio Kimero. The program is organized by Haaga Art Society, Helsinki Workers' Institute, Helsinki City Culture Centre.

Pukinmäki, Pukinmäki Circus School, Erkki Melartinin tie 2 D Pukinmäki Art Festivals 2-6 pm

Pukinmäki area's own art festival is being held for the first time by Pukinmäki Art Schools. The program features performances, workshops, face painting, balloons and much more! Dive into the world of circus, music, dance, theatre and visual art!

Tapanila, Tapanila Library, Hiidenkiventie 21 Story Time: Sun and Wind 5-6 pm

Theatre Tuikke's performance is based on Aesop's fables and uses sensory theatre methods. The performance lasts about 10 minutes, with performances at 5:20 pm, 5:40 pm and 6:00 pm during the evening. The performance is suitable for all ages.

Vallila, Vallila Library, Päijänteentie 5 Vallila Takes Over! 5-7 pm

The Vallila Takes Over evening has lots of fun things to do and experience for children, but everyone of all ages is cheerfully welcome! The event features singing performances by children from day care Runo, Puppet Theatre Poiju's Circus Strada performance (especially suitable for 3-8-year-olds) and a circus workshop led by Sirkus Magenta (especially suitable for 8-12-year-olds and of course adults!) A craft station is run by Craft People. Juice, pastries, coffee and tea are available. Organizers: Vallila Library Friends Association and Vallila Library. The event is supported by Stiftelsen 7:nde Mars and Taike. The program will be finalized closer to the event.

Viikki, Viikki Library, Viikinkaari 11 Children's Night of the Arts: One Big Circus for Everyone! 4-7 pm

At the Night of the Arts event aimed at families with children, Pelle PasiAnssi visits at 6 pm. Additionally, magic wand crafts, circus poetry and acrobatics in a spider web and more are planned!

Vuosaari, Villa Lill Kallvik, Juhannusruusunkuja 5 Artist House's Night of the Arts - Jazz, Groove and Dance in Aurinkolahti 5-10 pm

The Artist House's Night of the Arts in Aurinkolahti has become a tradition as a communal art event that invites Vuosaari area residents and families to partake in art. The event's program is themed around dance and music. At the Villa, there is also an art exhibition by Aurinkolahti school students and a children's visual arts workshop "Moving Line" and students from East Helsinki Music School's 6M class will perform music. Vuosaari, Vuotalo, Mosaiikkitori 2 Vuotalo's Night of the Arts

At Vuotalo's Night of the Arts, we sing and craft as a whole family. Vuosaari-sized music with Tuuli Paasonen leads singing and play for the whole family. The music moment is aimed at 0-7-year-olds, but children of all ages are welcome. Up to 120 participants can fit.

In the library’s children’s department, there will be crafts made from recycled materials. Additionally, various gallery workshops at Vuotalo 5-7 pm. More information about Vuotalo’s Night of the Arts can be found here.
