What is Helsinki's best playground? Where can you find a playground suitable for older children too? And a playground near the city center? Helsinki has over 200 playgrounds and more than 60 play parks. But do you know where to find one of Helsinki's newest playgrounds?

The Maunula playground, which had been under renovation for a long time, opened to children in late July/early August 2024. Although we visited the Maunula playground for the first time in rainy weather, it impressed us very positively!

Maunula playground is a wonderful whole!

The renovated Maunula playground is versatile and suitable for children of many ages, shaded by old trees just right. Thanks to the old trees and its safe location in the middle of a residential area, the Maunula playground is cozy, actually very inviting, and has a pleasant soundscape.

The renovated Maunula playground is a green oasis among the trees.
The Maunula playground also has many different swings.

Different functions are in balance: younger children have their own fenced, very versatile area, older children have a suitably challenging climbing structure, different types of swings, a cable slide and a paddling pool (which is only open during the summer season when the park is open). On one side of the park is a skate and scooter area, a multi-purpose field and an exercise equipment. And here's a charming feature of the park: its own pump station for young cyclists along the cycling path around the playground!

The fenced area for younger children is dominated by a large sandbox.
The renovated Maunula playground area is versatile and has activities for children and young people of all ages.
A dedicated pump station in the middle of the playground is a brilliant idea! Different types of ride-on toys can be borrowed on weekdays during the playground's opening hours, or you can ride around the yard with your own scooter.
The area for younger children in the Maunula playground is fenced.

The most impressive part of the park, the yellow climbing structure, is probably similar to the one that became wildly popular at Vennynpuisto, though at Maunula it's smaller but really nice and just right. The climbing structure is placed on a small hill, which makes it even more interesting and visually impressive.

The wow element of the playground is the yellow climbing structure with different routes at different levels.
The cable slide is located behind the playground building under large birch trees.
The paddling pool with sun loungers is available during the summer season during the playground's opening hours.
Next to the Maunula playground is also a recently renovated skate and scooter area.

The renovation of the Maunula playground is a very successful project by Helsinki standards! It's worth the trip even from far away. For example, express tram number 15 brings visitors right to the corner of the playground.
